Q:  What is the difference between the 1st - 8th grade leagues and the high school leagues?

A:  There are several differences between the younger leagues and the high school leagues.

  • The 9th-12th Grade Leagues start their games in mid-November and finish their tournament in mid-January to allow for Spring sports at the High School (see question below)
  • The 9th-12th Grade Leagues do not have practice.  The 1st-8th Grade Leagues have a 1 hour practice once per week.
  • The 1st-8th Grade Leagues have their teams selected based on a draft process.  Several of the younger leagues will hold evaluations prior to the draft to assists the coaches.  The 9th-12th Grade Leagues have the teams determined by the League Director and the players can request to be on a team will one of their friends (not allowed in 1st - 8th Grade Leagues).  Every effort is made to keep the teams competitive and sometimes all requests can not be met.

Q:  I missed the registration deadline.  Can I still register for the upcoming basketball season?

A:  We do our best to accommodate ALL Vestavia Hills residents that would like to participate in our league.  Unfortunately, we are not able to add any late registrations after the teams have been selected.

Q: I would like for my son's team to practice in gym near my house.  Is this possible?

A:  No, we do not place the boys on teams based on this type of request.  The teams are selected by the coaches through a draft process in an effort to provide the most competitive basketball games we can.  If any parent would like to have input regarding their son's practice location, the best way to do this is volunteer!!  We are always looking for volunteers to assists as Head Coaches or Assistant Coaches.

Q:  My son's team will not be practicing at the gym near our house.  Can you refund my money?

A:  No.  We do not want any of our participants to quit the league because they are not happy with the way the draft selection process went.  While we cannot prevent this from happening, please be aware that we will not refund the entry fee for this reason.  It is not fair to the coaches and other players.

Q:  I would like for my son to play on his friends/neighbors team.  Is this possible?

A:  It is possible for the high school leagues to request one friend (9th-12th Grade), however we cannot guarantee that all requests can be met.  For the 1st -8th grade leagues, we do not place the boys on teams based on this type of request.  For the 1st - 8th grade leagues, the teams are selected by the coaches through a draft process in an effort to provide the most competitive basketball games we can.  If any parent would like to have input regarding their son's practice location, the best way to do this is volunteer!!  We are always looking for volunteers to assists as Head Coaches or Assistant Coaches.

Q:  My son was not drafted on the same team as his friend/neighbor.  Can you refund my money?

A:  No.  We do not want any of our participants to quit the league because they are not happy with the way the draft selection process went.  While we cannot prevent this from happening, please be aware that we will not refund the entry fee for this reason.  It is not fair to the coaches and other players.

Q:  If I volunteer to help as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach, will my son play on my team?

A: YES!  The coach's sons are placed on their parents teams.  We encourage that no team have a Head Coach and Assistant Coach team together if their sons are both 1st or 2nd round draft picks.  This is to promote the most competitive basketball games we can.
